LAWRENCE B. GREER - Partner

Mr. Greer is a partner with the firm. He was raised in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from Southern Methodist University with a B.B.A. His law degree was obtained from the University of Houston where he graduated cum laude. He was also a member of the Order of the Barons and an Associate Editor of the Houston Law Review.

Mr. Greer worked as a briefing attorney for Justice Robert E. Morse on the Fourteenth Court of Appeals of the State of Texas. He then began his litigation practice with a Houston based litigation firm.

Mr. Greer has substantial experience in litigation involving complex legal and factual issues. His docket has included major commercial and personal injury claims, products liability litigation as well as malpractice defense of lawyers, doctors, and insurance agents.

Mr. Greer is AV rated by Martindale Hubbell. He is a member of the State Bar of Texas. He is also a member of the Houston Bar Association and the Texas Association of Defense Counsel. He is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts as well as the U.S. Southern District of Texas, the U.S. Northern District of Texas and the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.

JAMES R. SCOTT - Partner

Mr. Scott is a partner with the firm. He graduated from the University of Bridgeport in Connecticut with a B.A. He then attended South Texas College of Law, where he was a member of Delta Theta Phi Law Fraternity, and graduated with a Juris Doctor.

Mr. Scott has considerable experience in litigation involving defense of insureds and self-insureds in all risk categories covered by commercial lines and personal lines insurance coverages. His emphasis is on commercial auto, personal auto, construction, manufacturing, products liability, premises, security, fire and arson and maritime. He also handles insurance coverage opinions and representation of insurers in declaratory judgment and other coverage and insurance bad faith/extra-contractual litigation. Mr. Scott has experience in wills and probate matters, as well.

Approved by the Texas Department of Insurance as a continuing education course provider, Mr. Scott regularly assists those holding Texas insurance licenses with satisfaction of their continuing education requirements.

KAREN SHROPSHIRE - Partner

Ms. Shropshire is a partner with the firm. She was raised in Dallas, Texas, and graduated with honors from Texas Tech University with a B.S. Her law degree was obtained from Southern Methodist University in 1984, where she was a member of an honors fraternity.

Ms. Shropshire worked as a research attorney for Justices Ed Kinkeade and Joe Burnett, and then as a staff attorney for all of the justices, on the Fifth Court of Appeals of the State of Texas.

Ms. Shropshire has substantial experience in appeals and litigation involving complex legal and factual issues. Her docket has included major commercial and personal injury claims, employment litigation and malpractice litigation in both State and Federal Courts. She also has extensive experience in real estate and construction transactions and litigation and represents authors in negotiating publishing contracts.

Ms. Shropshire is a member of the State Bar of Texas and the Bar Association of the Fifth Federal Circuit Court of Appeals. She is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts as well as the United States District Court for the Northern District of Texas and the United States Fifth and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals. In 1990, she authored an article for a legal textbook published by Matthew Bender on emotional distress in the employment context.

CHELSEA AVERILL - Associate Attorney

Chelsea Averill is an associate attorney at the firm. Raised in Dallas, Texas, she graduated magna cum laude from Trinity University, with a BA in Religion and French. She attended University of Houston Law Center and graduated cum laude. While in law school, she was a member of the Order of the Barons, served as Chief Articles Editor on the Houston Journal of Health Law and Policy, and was a research assistant for Professor Jessica Roberts in health law and policy.

Ms. Averill's prior experience includes internships with various civil, commercial and family litigation firms. Ms. Averill’s interests are in civil and commercial litigation and she was worked on a wide variety of matters; including personal injury claims, the Texas Dram Shop Act, premises liability, construction litigation and a variety of other types of liability litigation. Ms. Averill is a member of the State Bar of Texas. She is also a member of Texas Young Lawyers Association, Houston Bar Association, and Association of Women Attorneys. She is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts.

KATIE NASH - Associate Attorney

Katie Dluhos Nash is an associate attorney. She was born and raised in El Campo, Texas. She graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a BA in English. She obtained her law degree from St. Mary's University School of Law in San Antonio. While in law school, she served as a Staff Writer and a Comment Editor for the St. Mary's Law Journal. She was also a research assistant and served as a teaching assistant.

Mrs. Nash's prior experience includes judicial internships and clerkships. Prior to joining the firm, she worked in civil litigation and the oil and gas industry. Mrs. Nash assists clients litigating a variety of civil matters, including personal injury claims, premises liability, breach of contract, and other various liability disputes. Mrs. Nash is a member of the Texas Young Lawyers Association, Houston Bar Association, and is an active member of the Texas Exes. She is licensed to practice law in all Texas state courts.

TINA SNELLING - Of Counsel

Ms. Snelling has served as "Of Counsel" to the firm for the past four years. She studied law at Syracuse School of Law at London and at the University of Houston Law Center where she obtained her law degree. Her undergraduate degree is from the University of Texas at Austin. Prior to entering private practice, Tina interned for a London Solicitor's office, a United States federal magistrate and later served as a briefing attorney in the Fourteenth District Texas Court of Appeals.

Ms. Snelling has served as co-editor for a publication for the insurance industry, an instructor in law classes, a labor hearing examiner for the City of Houston Civil Service Commission and has authored State Bar and Law Review articles on cutting edge legal issues in the courts. She also serves as a lecturer and presenter for the Texas State Bar on litigation topics.

In addition to her certifications as a Mediator and an Arbitrator, Ms. Snelling is Board Certified in Civil Appellate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and has been admitted to practice in Texas, Maine, District of Columbia, the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals, the United States Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court. She has written briefs and appeared as an advocate in over three hundred trials and appeals in state and federal courts in commercial, constitutional, employment, administrative, regulatory and administrative law cases.
